Chateau Loucen is located in central Bohemia in the middle of the St.George Forest, only an hour ride from Prague.
The history of the Castle dates back to Middle ages, first note comes from 1223. After Thirty Years' War the ownership was in the hands of Waldstein's. From 1809 the Castle was owned by the Thurn-Taxis aristocracy till 1945, when it was confiscated by the Czechoslovak State. In the year 2000 the Castle was bought by the company Loucen Inc., who begin a very demanding reconstruction of the whole complex including the Castle, the large castle park and the Maxmilian hotel building. In July 2007 it was opened again for public.
Part of the chateau complex is a well-maintained park of 16 hectares, one of the best preserved parks in the Czech Republic with original features: fountains, small lakes, statues, garden houses and, above all, rare woody plants and beautiful trees hundreds of years old. The chateau also boasts first Czech and only one in Europe unique complex of ten labyrinths and mazes. It was designed for Loucen Castle by Adrian Fischer, the world famous creator of more than 500 labyrinths around the globe.
